Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) is bringing a team of experts together for a panel discussion to examine the future of construction and real estate in the North East.
The event – titled Opportunities & Risks: The Future of the Construction & Development – is being held at WBD's new sustainable office within The Spark at Newcastle Helix today (October 11).
The construction and real estate sectors are set to face significant challenges in the coming months due to economic uncertainty and slowing levels of investment. Architects, engineers and contractors alike are reporting an increasingly difficult market.
Added to this, costly disputes and legal battles remain a challenge for the sector. One major dispute from the North East is set to reach the courts this Autumn, with a £140m claim set to be decided in court before the end of the year.
Construction barrister Paul Darling KC (also Chair of local pharmacy, Darlings), will talk to Michelle Percy of Newcastle City Council. They will join construction and law experts from Womble Bond Dickinson, DAC Beachcroft, and Decipher. WBD partners Simon Lewis and Ian Atkinson will deliver a talk about Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).
Paul will chat to Michelle about her work and the council’s plans for the region. The solicitors will take a look at digital construction and how that is set to revolutionise the sector. They’ll also bring attendees up to date on the latest legal developments. Paul Gibbons of Decipher will take a look at what the industry needs to consider to avoid costly disputes.
The event will give attendees the opportunity to meet with fellow industry leaders and experts.
