Arterne Care Limited now owns the property which houses Thornbury Villa Care Home
The company behind a Plymouth care home which started trading at the height of the coronavirus pandemic has secured its future with the help of Womble Bond Dickinson.
Arterne Care Limited, which runs Thornbury Villa, has completed the acquisition of the property almost three years after taking over the care home during one of the most challenging times for the sector. The home, which comprises 14 rooms, provides residential accommodation, Care and support for people aged 65 and over.
Plymouth-based law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) advised Arterne Care Limited directors, Cindy Willcocks and Andrew Nicholls on the purchase, having previously acted for the company when it acquired the business in early 2021. A multi-disciplinary team of lawyers worked on the deal, led by real estate partner Craig Moore and supported by managing associate Krista McCarthy. Partner Tom Fitzpatrick led the corporate work and was supported by managing associate Jo Norris.
Craig Moore commented:
"Andy and Cindy are extremely passionate about and dedicated to providing a loving home for residents. They showed immense courage to take over the running of the business during one of the most challenging times for the sector. They are very hands on owners and clearly have great relationships with the residents at Thornbury Villa. Acquiring the property shows their commitment to further improving the standards of the home and we were pleased to be able to support them in this process."
Cindy Willcocks, who was shortlisted in the UK top 10 for the Nursing times Florence Nightingale Nurse of the Year Award 2020, recently received the title of Queen's Nurse in September 2023 in recognition of her commitment to quality standards for community nursing, unwavering passion and dedication to the health and social care industry.
She added:
"Completing the purchase of the property is an important step for us as it will safeguard residents' futures and allow us to invest funds in improving the care home. We have created an amazing team to continue the journey together. We have already engaged Bailey Partnership (consultants) LLP to assist with the architectural and planning work to upgrade the accommodation, in particular the rooms and ensuite facilities.
"Craig, Krista and the team at Womble Bond Dickinson have been with us right from the start, having advised us on the acquisition of the business in 2020. Once again they provided sound legal expertise and commercial advice in the approachable and friendly way that we have come to expect from working with them."
