International law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable business practices by becoming a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative dedicated to responsible business development, implementation, and transparency.
Launched in 2000, the UNGC encourages companies worldwide to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of the UN aims and issues embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
WBD's participation in the UNGC reinforces the firm's commitment to ethical and sustainable practices, enhancing transparency and accountability for clients, communities, and stakeholders. It also enables the firm to collaborate with a global network of organisations, fostering innovation and collective action to address pressing global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and human rights.
As a signatory, WBD is dedicated to integrating the UNGC's ten principles into its strategy, policies, and culture. The firm will take proactive steps to support initiatives that advance the UN SDGs and will demonstrate progress through an annual Communication on Progress (COP) report.
WBD has identified key areas where it can make most impact and will focus on the following UN SGDs: 1. No Poverty, 3. Good Health and Well-being, 4. Quality Education, 10. Reduced Inequalities, 13. Climate Action, and 16. Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
Sally Dallow, partner lead for responsible business, said:
"This commitment highlights our unwavering dedication to responsible business practices and the advancement of sustainable development worldwide. By joining the UN Global Compact, we recognise the vital role businesses play in building a fairer, more sustainable future. Aligning with the UNGC enables us to embed internationally recognised principles into our every aspect of our operations and contribute meaningfully to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals."
