Bond Dickinson has collaborated with long standing client AIG, the global insurer, to develop and implement an innovative new approach to automatic document production – minimising risk for AIG and saving valuable time for its in-house lawyers.

As part of AIG's continuing drive to manage legal and operational risk, Bond Dickinson was engaged to design and implement a streamlined process for the automation of non-disclosure agreements.

Firstly AIG’s suite of template documents was consolidated into a single automated template. As a proof of concept, the drafting and review of NDAs was outsourced to Bond Dickinson. The firm designed and implemented a workflow which involved engaging directly with AIG’s business stakeholders.

Following the success of the pilot, Bond Dickinson assisted AIG to migrate the process to AIG's Shared Services Centre in Manilla. AIG’s Manilla-based team has 24/7 access to the templates which are hosted and supported by Bond Dickinson.

Nick Barwood, Partner and Head of the Commercial Team, comments: "We have worked closely with the legal team at AIG for several years to understand the way they work and help streamline their legal function. We are delighted that this initiative will not only help AIG to manage its legal risk, but also that it frees up resource within its legal team to better service the needs of its business."

Chris Newby, General Counsel at AIG, comments: "As part of AIG’s strategic focus to concentrate resources on delivering value to our clients, we are continually looking for ways to streamline operations and automate processes and systems. This approach simplifies the way we template legal documents enabling the legal team to focus on delivering value to the business."

Bond Dickinson's Innovation Group is leading on a series of firm-wide projects to improve service delivery as well as instilling an agile and creative approach to new ways of working with clients. Working in partnership with clients to identify the commercial or practical issues which can then be solved through innovation is key to the firm's success in this area.

Bond Dickinson has been named as a top five law firm for Innovation in the Best Legal Advisers' report 2016-2017.
