Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) has appointed Matt Lewy as a partner in the firm's London office. Joining the corporate and commercial team, Matt will support WBD's international energy practice working closely with colleagues in the UK and US including Aberdeen and Houston.

Matt, who joins from US law firm Baker Botts, has experience in advising clients in the energy sector, including conventional upstream oil and gas and renewables, as well as the transport and infrastructure sectors where he has led on a range of high profile corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and private equity. He also has a strong track record of acting on a number of cross border matters with a significant number of US and other international clients.

Stephen Pierce, Head of Corporate for WBD, commented:

"We're delighted to welcome Matt to our growing London practice, his international experience and particularly his connections with major Houston-based energy service sector clients will strengthen our offering both here in the UK and internationally."

Matt added:

"WBD has an impressive client portfolio and the firm is truly focused on growing its energy sector offering, bringing many opportunities to work on very exciting projects. I look forward to working with the team here in London and beyond."

WBD has been immersed in the energy industry sector for decades, giving the firm a great depth of experience across the various different forms of energy and power. In 2019, the firm announced the opening of a new office in Houston to expand its offering in the global energy, advanced manufacturing, technology and life sciences sectors.

Matt's appointment follows a wider recruitment drive particularly in WBD's London office which has seen nine new partners joining the insurance (Tim Barr, Simon Beckwith and Mark Ratcliff), immigration (Andrew Tingley), banking (Matt Williams), white collar crime (Audrey Koh), pensions (James Borshell) finance (Jonny Williams) and data protection (Mark Gleeson) teams in the past year.
