It’s easy to say this firm is different from the others, but we work hard to make sure it’s true.
It’s not just a case of being experts in the law. We’re looking for lawyers that know how to ask the right questions, who work tirelessly to deliver the right commercial solutions for our clients, and just as importantly know how to enjoy themselves whilst they do it. If you love what you do, and the team you work in, it shows. And that is what our clients want to see.
We don't deliver outstanding client service by recruiting just anyone. We make it our business to seek out the very best - commercially focused individuals with energy and creativity and a passion for what matters most to clients.
We’re looking for lawyers with a demonstrable commitment to helping clients achieve their goals. Individuals that care about getting it right and finding new ways to do it. We want to balance legal brilliance and know-how with individuality and a dedication to client relationships. We have an unswerving dedication to providing truly excellent client experience, and want you to, too.
But it doesn’t stop there. We’re proud of the fact that we have a reputation for fostering a supportive and friendly environment, so that all of our lawyers can prosper and grow. There’s something for everyone, whether that means getting involved in training the next generation though our trainee programme; contributing to strategic planning and activity, as well as business development; sports and social activities; or our CSR programme.
We think unlocking talent and looking after it is what will help us achieve our goals. So, if you’re looking for a career move that will place you amongst the best and offer you opportunities to innovate and progress, we want to hear from you.
We like our recruitment process to be more like a conversation than a form filling, box ticking exercise. We want to have an open and honest dialogue with like-minded individuals. To take the time to understand each other, identify opportunities and the ways in which we share the same approach and values. We need to get to know you and vice versa – it's not rocket science after all.
You’ll usually have a two stage interview process, during which you’ll get to meet all the key people relating to the role. We want you to feel free to ask questions, too, so that you can make up your own mind. We can also give you an opportunity to meet peers in the same team or in other teams, to help you understand what it is really like to work here.
In many cases, to support our recruitment decisions, we use additional assessment tools, such as work-based tests. These will be tailored and relevant to the position you have applied for and we’ll confirm all of this when we invite you for an interview, to make sure you are properly prepared.
If you are looking to join us as a managing associate, we will work with you to produce a business case and you will have to meet with an Appointment Committee Panel as part of the process.
We want you to reach your full potential. It doesn’t matter what stage of your career you’re at, you’ll get a chance to develop your individual talents and skills.
We have a strong and established approach to lawyer career development, from a clear career framework to an inspiring programme of development at all levels. Our lawyer framework demonstrates the career paths available. Along with clear, observable, measurable performance standards for every role (from trainee through to partnership), as well as a robust annual appraisal system, it gives you a clear idea of your personal career development plan. Most importantly, because we recognise that not everybody wants to follow the partnership track, we have an alternative career path for those of you who want to continue developing outstanding technical and client development skills.
We recognise that the skills you need to be an excellent lawyer are complex and require both a depth of legal expertise and a breadth of business, commercial and people skills. We will help you develop them through of a number of learning opportunities
We’re proud of the fact that our development programmes for lawyers are second to none – our Lawyer Development Programme has core modules that are aligned to each career milestone as well as associated personal and business skills. We help you to develop to the skills needed to work in and lead high performing teams, be effective project managers, deliver exceptional client service, coach, manage and motivate colleagues and to present and negotiate with confidence. Additional support and guidance from supervisors, team leaders and our learning and development team will ensure that you’re always heading in the right direction.
We work hard to ensure that remuneration is competitive, and our approach to salary setting is consistent and fair. We have yearly pay reviews, usually in November.
We have a flexible benefits system, which is delivered online via Choices which allows employees to mix and match their benefit offering to best suit their personal circumstances. These include:
- Buying and selling holiday entitlement
- Life assurance
- Private medical cover and dental cover
- Pension contributions
- Childcare vouchers
- Travel loan schemes and discounted car parking schemes
- Cycle purchase scheme.
We also have a financial incentive scheme in place for our lawyers which is designed to recognise performance against certain criteria and/or reward clear examples of those living our values. This allows our people to share in our success and to celebrate what matters most to our business.
By now you’ll have worked out that there’s no template for a Womble Bond Dickinson lawyer. We’re looking for legal excellence as standard as well as the ability to inspire our clients and deliver outstanding service.
We are looking for individuals who can challenge the status quo, that ask questions and look for solutions.
We need people who are keen to be part of an ambitious team focused on growth and success, who are prepared to work hard and reap the rewards. Just as important though is the ability to have fun, to be inspired by the work you do and to enjoy the company of your colleagues. If that sounds like you, we want to hear from you.
