
Jon is Head of the firm's Employment team and also Head of the Southampton office. He is a partner specialising in all aspects of employment law and provides contentious and advisory support to a range of employers.
Jon has particular interest and expertise in the employment aspects of high-profile acquisitions and disposals, including the effect of the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006. He also regularly advises on the TUPE implications of outsourcing agreements in particular in the retail sector.
Jon has been involved in providing advice on re-organisations following large scale acquisitions and on day to day issues arising out of board or other senior executive issues that are seen as business critical or sensitive. He is the lead employment contact for Quilter and Transdev Airport Services Ltd and also client relationship partner for LV=.
He regularly undertakes client training and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
Experience
- Advising on the employment and industrial relations aspects associated with the transfer of Ordnance Survey from the Civil Service to a wholly-owned Government company
- Successfully defending a company against an employment tribunal claim brought by an existing employee who argued that she was entitled to outstanding holiday pay for a period of 10 years from when she started receiving payments under a PHI policy. The issue had never been considered at appellate level
- Advising on the employment aspects of the acquisition by Old Mutual Wealth of the entire issued share capital Intrinsic Financial Services Limited, the UK's largest network of restricted and independent financial advisors
- Advising Whitbread plc on the employment and TUPE issues associated with the outsourcing of its in-house food, logistics, warehousing and distribution function (in respect of its Costa Coffee, Beefeater and Brewers Fayre outlets). The outsourcing involved approximately 500 employees (with the associated closure of existing distribution centres in Reading and Trafford Park)
- Successfully defending a number of unfair dismissal and whistleblowing claims under the Public Interest Disclosure Act (including defending the associated interim relief applications) attracting significant press coverage.
