Bond Dickinson LLP has been appointed to the legal panel for Water Plus, a joint venture launched this year by United Utilities and Severn Trent.

The new business, established in June 2016, will provide water and sewerage retail services for business customers across the UK, when the new competition rules are introduced in April.

Bond Dickinson will support Water Plus by providing a full-service of legal expertise across a range of disciplines, including commercial, competition, regulatory and commercial disputes.

Ian Newcombe, Partner in our Energy and Natural Resources team, said: "We are delighted to have been appointed by Water Plus on the back of our strong energy and utilities credentials.

"The new competition rules coming into force in April 2017 will impact all UK businesses looking to switch providers and will come with a number of legal challenges as well as opportunities. With more than 25 years' experience in the utilities market, we will support Water Plus as an extension of their own legal team, providing heavyweight legal expertise and the best service possible to support their business objectives."

Kristin Garrett, Head of Legal and Company Secretary at Water Plus, added: “We are delighted to have Bond Dickinson on our panel of law firms and look forward to working with the team in the exciting times ahead for our business.”

Based in seven offices in the UK, Bond Dickinson provides legal services across a wide range of sectors including energy, manufacturing, financial services, insurance, retail, transport, real estate and private wealth. The firm's energy client portfolio includes Centrica, Scottish Power and RWE, as well as other major utilities such as ESBi (the Irish State power company) and leading independents including RES and Atco Power.
