Building business links between the US and UK was the aim of an event at London's US Embassy which was co-sponsored by international law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD).
The firm cosponsored an event that was in honour of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) and aimed to further strengthen trade between the US and UK, particularly in the fields of aerospace, technology and defence.
Fairfax County, which sits on the outskirts of Washington D.C. and has a GDP contribution of $144bn (£108.5bn), is home to 10 Fortune 500 companies, 120 Inc. 5000 companies and more than 400 foreign-owned/affiliated companies being based there.
Members from three WBD offices attended the event, where business leaders noted the benefits of transatlantic trade and formed new links to promote future business.
Stephen Anderson, a partner at WBD who spoke at the event, said:
"WBD has strong links with Fairfax County Economic Development Authority and has an office in Fairfax County. It was therefore a pleasure to support this event with a view of continuing to foster strong collaborative ties between the UK and the US and raise awareness of the superb location of Fairfax County for businesses looking to expand into the US.
"Given our firm is uniquely positioned to assist businesses in navigating the complexities of international trade, thanks to a deep expertise and extensive network of offices across the US and the UK, it's great to support events like and help companies get well-equipped to meet the challenges and opportunities of operating in a global economy."
WBD's presence as an international firm will also continue to grow from 1 January 2025, through a planned combination with multi-practice firm Lewis Roca in the US creating a powerhouse firm of more than 1,300 lawyers in 37 offices across the United States and the United Kingdom.
The new firm, which based on gross revenue of more than £565 million would have ranked 70th on the 2024 Am Law 100, will further each firm’s commitment to growth in the sectors that are innovating and leading technological change, and provide clients with greater access to leading legal expertise no matter where they are.
