A postcode lottery for academies in the LGPS?

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and the Department for Education (DfE) asked the Government Actuary's Department (GAD) to review the treatment of academies within the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). GAD has now released a report setting out its findings based on valuation data as at 31 March 2016.

The Supreme Court rarely hears employment law cases so they are worth reporting when they happen. In Reilly v Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council (previously known as A v B and another) [2018] UKSC 16, the Supreme Court had to consider whether a school had unfairly dismissed a head teacher who had not disclosed a relationship with a person convicted of making indecent images of children.

Unfair Contract Terms Act in the Court of Appeal

The Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 (UCTA) prohibits unfair exclusion clauses in contracts. In particular, section 3 of UCTA prohibits such clauses where one party deals as a consumer or enters into a contract on the other party's "written standard terms of business."
