JD is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group where he assists clients in securing and protecting their creative rights in patent, trademark and copyright matters with a focus on civil litigation and other forms of IP enforcement. JD enjoys assisting clients – from entrepreneurial start-ups through large, established corporations – protect and leverage their intellectual property rights and assets through effective and aggressive legal action.

Before law school, JD served in the US Air Force as a defense acquisitions program manager and engineer. His active duty experience included various management and engineering roles and culminated as a staff officer to the Commander of the Electronic Systems Center. In this capacity, he was responsible for assisting the general in all internal and external communications to manage a 9,000- person organization with 150 defense programs and a $5 billion annual budget. JD also served as an honor guardsman during this time, overseeing a team responsible for providing final military funeral honors for over 1,000 fallen service members and veterans per year throughout New England, and personally participating in many of those services as well.

  • Helped secure highly favorable summary judgment order against patent infringer in a 2-player market for carpet tufting machinery in which the judge held that all accused machines infringed multiple claims of multiple patents, and that all asserted claims of all three patents-in-suit were infringed by multiple machines.
  • Spearheaded anti-counterfeiting effort to remove infringing products from Amazon.com and secure $1 million judgment in the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
  • Guided major art studio to successful settlement with copyright infringer selling unauthorized reproductions on Etsy.com, completely ending infringing sales and securing agreement from infringer to forfeit all counterfeit product.
  • Oversaw anti-counterfeiting campaign against multiple flea markets to end unauthorized sales of major, nationally recognized brand-named clothing items.
  • Assisted cross-specialty legal team guide major regional bank through rebranding and trademark infringement issues, including successful defense against a baseless motion for a preliminary injunction and temporary restraining order for trademark infringement.
