Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) has been nominated for the Best Company award at the upcoming Planet Mark Awards 2020. The awards celebrate the work that members carry out in their various organisations and communities.

This year WBD achieved certification to The Planet Mark for the third year running and reported significant reductions in its carbon emissions, recording an impressive decrease of 14.9% from the year ending 2018. The relative carbon footprint per employee also saw a decrease of 17.4% compared to the previous year. Electricity emissions also decreased by 23% and travel emissions by 7%. The Planet Mark estimated that WBD's efforts saved the carbon equivalent of 226 return flights from London to New York.

Martin Hall, Head of Facilities Management at WBD, commented:

"We are delighted to have been nominated for Best Company at this year's Planet Mark Awards. As society embarks on a decade of climate action, the legal sector must be at the forefront of any progress made. At WBD we are ever mindful of the impacts of our business and are committed to enhancing our environmental performance and to improving our environmental management. We want to be a socially aware and ethical business and this includes minimising the negative impact of our firm on the environment."

As well as working with The Planet Mark, WBD is a member of the Legal Sustainability Alliance, and takes every opportunity to align environmental strategies with its clients and suppliers. The firm has set up five obtainable environmental targets to complete by the end of 2020, ranging from eradicating plastics from the working environment and making efficiency measures in the firm’s offices.

WBD also recently won the Award for Sustainability at the LexisNexis Legal Awards 2020.

The winners will be announced at the virtual awards event on Thursday 15 October.
