Womble Bond Dickinson's (WBD) Newcastle-based corporate team was delighted to win two awards at the North East Insider Dealmakers Awards.

WBD won awards for:

  • Private Equity/Venture Capital Deal of the Year – for advising the Royal Institute of British Architects on the £31.8m investment by Lloyds Development Capital into NBS
  • Deal of the Year (above £10m) – acting on behalf of longstanding client Tekmar on admission of its shares to trading on AIM and its £61.8m fundraising from institutional investors.

The team continues to go from strength to strength. In the past year WBD has advised on numerous deals across the region, worth in excess of £1bn. This recent success follows on from an impressive performance earlier this year when the team celebrated a fantastic month in June after closing five multi-million pound transactions in the North East alone, confirming its position as the region's leading corporate team.

Ben Butler, Partner in Corporate and Commercial Services, comments:

"These awards saw the region's corporate finance community come together to celebrate the high levels of transaction activity that has taken place in the past 12 months. It was fantastic to see our corporate team receiving recognition for their hard work and commitment to clients. These awards demonstrate our work with exciting and growing North East clients, like NBS. It was also great to see James Ritchie-Bland of Tekmar receive an award for Entrepreneur of the Year following our nomination. More widely, the North East continues to have a thriving deals market and remains a great place to do business."

Robert Phillips, Partner in Corporate and Commercial Services, adds:

"This is the third year in a row that the team has worked on the Deal of the Year. These award wins are part of a highly successful 12 months for our Newcastle team and our clients. Our recent deals demonstrate that there continues to be significant capital available for investment in the region for the right opportunities. WBD is a really exciting place to be right now and these awards reinforce our position as the go-to firm for the region's key deals."
