WBD has acted for Wakefield City Council in relation to the provision of a £3m loan to help fund the acquisition by Wakefield Trinity RLC of its existing Belle Vue Stadium.
Trinity had been tenants of the stadium but wanted to acquire the freehold with a view to developing the stadium over the next few years to meet the Rugby Football League's requirements for Super League clubs. The acquisition of the site was the first critical piece in the jigsaw in terms of delivery of this strategy, and the firm worked with the Council and the Club's advisers to frame terms which would meet all legal requirements and give the Club the ability to plan for the future.
The team at WBD was led by Iain Greenshields, supported by Peter Cantwell, Kathrine Eddon, and Sonal Kang.
Iain Greenshields, said:
"We were delighted to be involved in this project particularly as it was our first piece of work for the Council."
WBD's Project's and Procurement team boasts the capabilities to deal with large projects, including regularly advising on public procurement, state aid and data protection issues. The team have a strong presence in the leisure sector and clean energy sectors as they previously advised City of York Council on its £34m Community Stadium and Leisure Project and on its Park and Ride partnership with First York Limited.
The team also advised the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on its guidance for local authorities on the procurement of finance for heat networks.
