Womble Bond Dickinson's (WBD) Newcastle-based Corporate team has been recognised again as market-leading - with the team and its work being shortlisted for a number of awards at the North East Insider Dealmakers Awards 2019.
This year WBD has been shortlisted for:
- Deal of the Year £2.5m - £10m – acting on behalf of Vertu Motors plc on its acquisition of Vans Direct
- Deal of the Year £2.5m - £10m – for advising Lambton Share Property Company on its £8.66m acquisition of St Julian's Estate Limited
- Deal of the Year £10m+ - for advising Newcastle City Council on its joint venture with Engie to develop low carbon district energy infrastructure projects, such as the urban green energy project in the heart of Newcastle Helix
- PE Deal of the Year – acting on the £7m investment in AVID Technology by Maven Capital Partners, and existing shareholders, NVM Private Equity and Downing Ventures.
Corporate partner, Robert Phillips has also been shortlisted for corporate lawyer of the year.
This follows the team's success at the awards last year, where its work was recognised for Private Equity/Venture Capital Deal of the Year - advising the Royal Institute of British Architects on the £31.8m investment by Lloyds Development Capital into NBS; and Deal of the Year (above £10m) acting on behalf of longstanding client Tekmar on admission of its shares to trading on AIM and its £61.8m fundraising from institutional investors.
Kevin Robertson, Partner and Head of the Newcastle office, comments:
"Following a hugely successful year, it is fantastic that the efforts of our corporate team and the deals on which they have worked, continue to be recognised.
"The variety of transactions that our corporate team have been shortlisted for, across a number of specialist areas and sectors and with a varying transaction size reflects the breadth of experience, expertise and strength in depth within our nationally recognised, regionally focussed corporate team.
"In the past 12 months, our Newcastle team has worked on more than 75 local transactions, combining local expertise with international capability. It is great that our deep technical expertise, developed through national and transatlantic connections, contacts and experience, continues to benefit the region's businesses and deals market."
"We are delighted that the market and our clients continue to recognise this and keep coming back to us. Without our clients, we wouldn’t be here – so these award nominations are a reflection of their continued trust in us."
