Philip Hammond opened his Spring Statement by saying that last night's vote left a heavy cloud of uncertainty over the UK. But he went on to describe a remarkably robust economy which has grown for the last nine years and can provide a solid foundation for the future - if the UK can secure a smooth and orderly exit from the EU. The chancellor is confident a deal can be agreed, despite recent setbacks, in which case a full three-year Spending Review will be launched before the summer recess, to be concluded alongside an Autumn Budget. However he warned that leaving with “No Deal” would mean significant disruption and a smaller, less prosperous economy.
