The first Spring Statement painted an upbeat picture of improved growth for the UK economy and reduced debt. The Chancellor repeated many of the positive messages from the Autumn Budget as he reported on progress for home-building targets and the digital business world as well as historically high employment rates. There was however a note of caution that no one should expect a spending spree in November but the 'balanced' approach to continue.
