James Hanlon, General Counsel (Head of Legal Operations) & Company Secretary IKEA USA
James began working for IKEA USA as General Counsel in January 2018. His department oversees the main holding company as well as a disparate number of subsidiaries including property, distribution and retail units. James also works as a global lawyer reporting to Group General Counsel in Sweden and formerly served as the UK and Ireland Head of Legal for six years until his recent move. James started his career as a barrister in Chambers based in London and is now split between IKEA offices between Philadelphia, London & Sweden. Following his move to the US at the beginning of this year, James will be sharing valuable insights from the US for UK GCs.
Professor Ewan McKendrick
Professor of English Private Law at the University of Oxford, and editor of Goode on Commercial Law, Professor McKendrick is a Queen’s Counsel (Honoris Causa) and practices as a barrister at 3 Verulam Buildings, Gray’s Inn. Prior to being appointed as Registrar he was Pro—Vice-Chancellor in the University and was also Chair of the Law Board.
