Sandy joined the Employment team on qualification in September 2019, following the completion of his training contract with the firm.  He assists both public and private sector clients on a wide range of employment law issues.

Sandy's experience includes advising on disciplinary and grievance issues, reviewing and drafting contracts of employment, negotiating settlement agreements, as well as preparing for complex Employment Tribunal hearings (including claims for unfair dismissal, discrimination, and whistleblowing).  He also utilises his corporate experience to offer support in corporate transactions, from an employment perspective.

During his training contract, Sandy was seconded to a national holiday park operator to work with their in-house legal team.  This allowed him to gain experience of a full spectrum of legal issues.

Sandy is also a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.


Examples of experience include:

  • Providing employment support to clients via helpline arrangements, which involves advising on a wide range of HR matters such as policies and procedures, managing sickness absence, disciplinary and grievance procedures, holiday pay and dismissal issues
  • Preparing for high-value Employment Tribunal cases, which required preparation of disclosure bundles and drafting of witness statements;
  • Drafting bespoke contractual documentation for a national pharmaceuticals company
  • Drafting and negotiating service agreements for senior management of a North-East based biotech business.
