Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) is the first firm to sign up to CoCounsel, Thomson Reuters' professional-grade GenAI assistant, across its entire UK practice, marking a significant milestone for AI integration in the legal industry.
CoCounsel will support WBD's lawyers with day-to-day legal tasks, such as legal research, document review and analysis, and correspondence drafting.
WBD’s decision to implement the technology across all of its UK practice highlights the transformative potential of AI in legal practice and reinforces WBD's position as a bold and innovative firm. By integrating CoCounsel into its workstreams and infrastructure, WBD aims to improve service speed and quality, and help clients address legal problems which are hard to service using traditional methods. Ultimately working to provide superior client service and support.
While CoCounsel has been trialled and used selectively in various firms across the UK, WBD is the first to set a new standard by making the software available to all its lawyers on a firmwide basis. Following the successful conclusion of the software pilot, WBD’s innovation team showcased the technology at the firm’s Partner conference this month, with plans to begin rolling out across the business from February onwards.
Sam Dixon, Chief Innovation Officer at Womble Bond Dickinson, said:
"We strive to give all of our colleagues what they need to fulfil their potential and provide excellent service to our clients. We believe that it will become increasingly clear to the profession that lawyers can no longer offer truly exceptional client service without working alongside AI. We’re, therefore, delighted to be the first UK firm to sign up to CoCounsel and make it available to all our lawyers. This will enable every one of them to fulfil their enhanced potential and allow our clients to be early beneficiaries of what can be achieved when great lawyers are supported by a great generative AI legal assistant."
Steve Assie, general manager, Global Large Law Firms at Thomson Reuters, added:
“Thomson Reuters is excited to be collaborating with Womble Bond Dickinson to provide our professional-grade GenAI assistant, CoCounsel, across the UK. By implementing the latest solutions and content-enabled technology from Thomson Reuters, WBD will continue to offer the highest quality of service to its clients and drive innovation within the firm to elevate its entire workflow through an enhanced integrated experience.”
