International law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD) has advised Arriva Group on its significant acquisition of RTS Infrastructure, a move that further strengthens Arriva’s position as a leading passenger transport provider in the UK market.
The acquisition encompasses RTS Infrastructure’s train maintenance and depot business, as well as its design and build rail infrastructure construction operations. This strategic deal marks Arriva’s entry into the UK rail infrastructure construction sector and significantly expands its train maintenance capabilities, including the addition of a modern depot near Leeds. The new facility will complement Arriva Train Care’s existing services and diversify its UK Trains business division, supporting long term growth through a broader revenue mix. It will also broaden the Group’s offering to both existing and new clients.
A team of more than 25 lawyers from various teams across WBD advised on the transaction, led by corporate partner David Ridley and supported by solicitors Danny Jeffrey and Daniel Plant.
David Ridley commented:
“We are delighted to have supported Arriva on this strategic acquisition. The deal marks an important milestone for Arriva’s growth in the UK rail sector. Our cross-disciplinary team worked collaboratively to deliver a successful outcome, and we look forward to seeing Arriva and RTS Infrastructure achieve continued success together.”
Kevin Bell, WBD's Client Relationship Partner for the Arriva Group further commented:
"I am absolutely delighted that David and the wider team here at Womble Bond Dickinson could advise Arriva on this strategically important investment which further expands its UK rail capabilities and positions the Group well for further growth. It was a real team effort from all involved in the transaction. We look forward to continuing to support Arriva as it delivers on its broader growth strategy both here in the UK and in mainland Europe."
