Julian is the joint head of the firm's Technology sector, and is a member of  the IP, Technology and Data team. His main areas of practice are in information technology and e-commerce, including the development and licensing of software, outsourcing, online services and data protection. Clients include major retailers, government bodies, and financial institutions. Julian advises on large IT outsourcing projects, specialising in the regulated financial services sector. He is also known for his work on retail IT systems.

Julian is an officer of The International Bar Association (Technology Law committee), and is a member of The Society for Computers and Law, and an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.

    Experience

    Examples of experience include advising:

    • In-sourcing and consolidation of various previously outsourced functions (IT service delivery and business processes) for an international wealth management organisation constituting critical outsourcings for FCA purposes and relating to a large number of insurance policies
    • Assisting a financial adviser network in its adoption of a novel technology platform to provide wealth management functions and information on-line to its adviser network
    • Conducting negotiations for an international retail group with SAP for the licensing and configuration/integration of a new global trading platform, using SAP HANA. It included software licences, cloud based hosting services, and systems integration services using agile methodologies.
