Ben Busboom is a forward-thinking corporate and transactional attorney who serves as the chair of Womble Bond Dickinson’s renewable energy group. With a focus on the energy transition, Ben supports companies and investors navigating complex energy, natural resource, supply chain, and environmental matters. His extensive experience within project permitting, real property, engineering/construction, material supply, and offtake business sectors underscores his deep understanding of the interconnectedness of the ever-evolving energy industry.

- Advised the energy and electrification arm of a major automotive manufacturer on a multi-year framework agreement and related project arrangements with leading North American power developers for the deployment of up to 20 GWh of utility-scale battery storage across the United States, leading accelerated, multi-party negotiations and structuring scalable procurement, delivery, pricing, and performance frameworks to support long-term portfolio growth, strategic partnerships, and grid-scale energy infrastructure investment.
- Advised a major automotive manufacturer on international and domestic transactions relating to the acquisition of lithium and other battery metals.
- Advised an international gold company on operational matters, including the acquisition of a gold mine in Nevada.
- Formed a renewable natural gas startup company and advised the client on proposed joint ventures, financing, investment opportunities, and general corporate matters.
- Advised international and domestic clients on the formation of ventures relating to the purchase and sale of power and physical infrastructure necessary for cryptocurrency mining projects.
- Acted as primary counsel for a Blackrock-backed developer of carbon capture and sequestration joint ventures with a focus on corporate, real estate, environmental, and tax aspects of the projects.
- Advised a Midwestern independent energy company on the construction and operation of solar facilities in areas with active oil, gas, and mineral development.
- Performed environmental, regulatory, and land use diligence for renewable energy and wireless telecommunications projects nationwide.
- Formed and advised companies designed to consolidate agricultural assets and negotiated related service and management contracts.
- Negotiated agreements, permits, penalties, and settlements with federal and state administrative agencies.
- Advised clients on environmental liability and structuring acquisitions, divestitures, purchases, and sales of environmentally sensitive assets/interests.
- Served as primary contact counsel for a national land management client managing over 140,000 properties nationwide (agricultural, land use, and mineral matters).
