Ami Patel’s practice focuses on energy regulatory matters. She advises public utility clients on implementing strategies and obtaining regulatory approvals to achieve their business goals, including representing clients in administrative litigation before the North Carolina Utilities Commission and other state public service commissions. Her experience includes advising on renewable energy procurement, power contract structuring, and solar project development, as well as managing regulatory proceedings involving solar procurement, interconnection compliance, integrated resource planning, and carbon planning. She also counsels clients on matters affecting large load and data center service, tariff and cost recovery options, permitting and land use issues, and federal energy regulatory considerations under FERC and PURPA.
Prior to joining the firm, Ami served as law clerk for the Honorable Gregory P. McGuire in the North Carolina Business Court where she analyzed legal instruments, reviewed contracts and documents, conducted legal research, drafted judicial opinions on complex commercial and business matters, and observed bench trials and hearings. While attending law school, Ami served as a legal intern in the Appellate Section of the Office of Immigration Litigation in the U.S. Department of Justice and as a judicial intern for Judge Frank D. Whitney in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.
