Sara Yates is an associate in the firm's Litigation Practice Group. She focuses her practice on general corporate and commercial litigation, including contracts and partnership disputes, trade secrets and intellectual property, and business torts.
Before joining the firm, Sara attended the University of Colorado Law School, where she served on the Executive Board of the Colorado Technology Law Journal as the lead articles editor, served on the Executive Board of the Black Law Students Association, served on the Honor Council, was a Rothgerber Teaching Fellow for property law, and was a research assistant for criminal law and criminal procedure. During her judicial externship in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, Sara drafted orders in various areas of civil law for the Honorable Kristen L. Mix.
Representative Experience
- Trial team member in a five-and-a-half-year real property dispute, securing a judgment confirming the client's ownership rights and a $3.1 million award of attorneys' fees and costs.
- Second chair in a two-day arbitration involving airport ground lease rates and excess rent payments, obtaining a favorable final award resolving all claims and establishing future lease rates.
- Trial team member in three-day arbitration involving breach of contract claims, obtaining a six-figure damages award and a six-figure award of attorneys’ fees and costs.
- Successfully obtained judgments and enforced collection remedies resulting in the recovery of significant assets on breach of contract, promissory note, and guaranty claims for financial institution clients.
- Successfully defended financial institution clients in mechanics’ lien and homeowners’ association lien litigation.
