WBD Transport Partner, Kevin Bell, took part in a key discussion with other business leaders at Newcastle International Airport earlier today (7 March) in relation to the Strategic Transport Plan (STP) that has recently been published by Transport for the North (TfN).

The STP outlines the robust case for transformational transport investment across all of the North in order to rebalance the UK economy and transform the lives of people living and working in the North. In particular, the STP highlights how a £70 billion pipeline of investment would transform connectivity across the North and unlock an additional £100 billion in economic growth and support the creation of up to 850,000 new jobs.

The event heard from speakers and delegates around the content of the STP, what this means for the North East and the positive impact it could have on the region's businesses. Attendees also included business representatives from the North East region, council members and the wider transport community.

Speakers at the event included:

  • Barry White, TfN Chief Executive
  • Cllr Carl Marshall, Durham County Council and North East Combined Authority
  • Cllr Arlene Ainsley, Newcastle City Council and North of Tyne Combined Authority
  • Andrew Hodgson, Chair at North East Local Enterprise Partnership
  • Graeme Mason, Planning and Corporate Affairs Director at Newcastle International Airport
  • Kevin Bell, Transport Partner at Womble Bond Dickinson

Kevin Bell, comments:

"This was an important discussion as the event marked an opportunity for business leaders in the region to come together and speak with one voice to outline our vision of the future. The many insights shared at the event will help bolster and support the plans of Transport for the North for future transport development which addresses decades of under investment and provides a legacy for future generations. I want to ensure Womble Bond Dickinson, as a significant North East business, can help contribute towards building and developing both stronger transport links across the North and a vibrant local economy."

Womble Bond Dickinson's Transport team has been highlighted in the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners for 'providing first class service' and for having a 'strong client focus and providing excellent legal advice'.
