DENVER—The 29th Annual Spring Symposia of the ABA Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law brought together attorneys from across the nation to discuss hot topics and emerging trends.
Womble Carlyle was well-represented at the event, with attorneys Elizabeth Lee, Ellen Lloyd, Larry Moye and Dan Orvin in attendance. Lee currently serves as Chair-Elect for the RPTE Section and will serve as Section Chair for the 2017-18 Bar Year.
In addition, the firm was a Bronze Sponsor of the symposia.
The ABA RPTE Spring Symposia took place April 20-21 in Denver. This year’s discussion topics included residential development and water conservation, sustainable development, preferred partnerships in wealth transfers, current trends in non-tax estate planning, powers-of-attorney, international leasing as well as ethics and technology.
The ABA Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law is a leading national forum for real estate and trust and estate lawyers, and currently has around 22,000 members. The Real Property Division focuses on legal aspects of property use, ownership, development, transfer, regulation, financing, taxation and disposal of real property. The Trust and Estate Division focuses on all aspects of trusts, estate planning, elder law, employee benefits, insurance, and probate and trust litigation.
Lee concentrates her practice in counseling life insurance companies, banks and other institutional lenders in all aspects of secured lending, including construction and permanent financing, mezzanine financing, real estate loan syndications and loan participations, with a special emphasis on transactions secured by commercial real estate of diverse project types, including mixed use, retail, commercial/office, multi-family, hotel/hospitality, and healthcare. She also counsels clients in connection with real property secured loan restructuring, workout, foreclosure and REO disposition. She is a Fellow and member of the Board of Regents of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys. She practices in Womble Carlyle’s Washington, D.C. office.
Ellen Lloyd is an experienced real estate and capital markets attorney who guides clients in commercial real estate transactions, including buying, selling, leasing, financing and developing commercial property. In addition, Ellen counsels borrowers and lenders in commercial lending transactions. She practices in Womble Carlyle’s Winston-Salem, N.C. office
Larry Moye advises clients in a broad range of trust and estate matters, including estate planning and administration, gift and charitable contribution planning, the formation and usage of limited liability entities, and closely-held business succession planning. He also represents individual and institutional clients involved in will caveats and trust disputes, breach of fiduciary duty claims, and other fiduciary litigation concerning the rights, duties and powers of trustees and trust beneficiaries. He practices in Womble Carlyle’s Raleigh, N.C. office.
Dan Orvin’s practice includes commercial transactions, real estate development and real estate and business litigation. A significant portion of his practice is focused on title insurance claims litigation and lender liability litigation. Orvin also has an extensive amount of experience developing commercial and mixed-use properties (including “New Urbanist” projects), handling zoning matters and drafting and negotiating commercial leases. He practices in Womble Carlyle’s Charleston, S.C. office.
