South Carolina is one of the leading exporter states in the US, and much of that cross-border trade is headed to the UK and the European Union. With UK voters recently opting to leave the EU, US companies are uncertain as to how the Brexit will impact their global operations.

Through its partnership with UK firm Bond Dickinson, Womble Carlyle has been working closely with clients to help them adapt to the post-Brexit European marketplace. Womble Carlyle Chair & CEO Betty Temple recently spoke about the impact of the UK-EU split with the GSA Business Report in Upstate South Carolina.

“Any kind of uncertainty is going to make businesses nervous,” Temple said. “It is going to have an effect and probably pretty dramatic….For a lot of companies in the Upstate, the UK was the gateway to the EU, and that strategy may be different in the future.”
