ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) issues have become mainstream both in the business world and the legal profession. Companies and the outside law firms that serve them are examining how their actions impact the world at large and are looking for ways to have a positive impact.

Womble Bond Dickinson Partners Francisco Balduzzi and José Luis Vittor will represent the firm at the International Bar Association’s conference on “ESG: The Role of Lawyers Today and in the Future”. The conference takes place Feb. 28-Mar. 1 in New York.

Vittor also will co-moderate a panel discussion on “The Financial Industries and ESG: Investing, Private Equity, Banking, and Rating Agencies”. The panel will discuss such topics as:

  • How is ESG impacting the financial industries, and being impacted by it?
  • Shareholder activism; global regulatory developments and guidance; and
  • Why is ESG becoming a political issue in the financial industry, and is that a problem?

Von Wobeser & Sierra attorney Luis Burgueño will co-moderate the panel discussion. Speakers will include JP Morgan Global Head of ESG Policy and Regulation Linda French; International Federation of Accountants Director of Sustainability, Policy & Regulatory Affairs David Madon; Nishimura & Asahi attorney Takeshi Nemoto; and Sullivan and Cromwell attorney Inosi Nyatta.
