The Womble Carlyle family mourns the loss of Ben Moore, a founding Partner of the firm’s Charleston office.
Ben began his legal career in 1957, and focused his practice on maritime law. He was one of the principals who formed Buist Moore Smythe & McGee in 1970 through the merger of predecessor firms. Ben also was one of the founders and a Past President of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association.
In 2011, Ben was an active supporter of Buist Moore Smythe & McGee’s proposed merger with Womble Carlyle, and enjoyed the many new friends he met across the firm.
In addition to his long-time service to his firm and clients, Ben also served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952-54. He also served on numerous civic boards during his career, including the Charleston Library Society, the American Cancer Society’s Charleston Branch and the Medical University of South Carolina’s Health Sciences Foundation.
The family will receive visitors on from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21st at 30 Tradd Street in Charleston. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, at St. Michael’s Church, Meeting and Broad Streets in Charleston.
We at Womble Carlyle wish to extend our thoughts and prayers to Ben’s family and friends.
