WINSTON-SALEM, NC—Womble Bond Dickinson attorney Sonny Haynes has been selected as one of the Triad Business Journal’s 40 Leaders Under 40 for 2021.  The virtual celebration honoring winners will be held on April 22, and TBJ recently published an interview with Haynes.

TBJ’s 40 Under 40 is an annual list featuring professionals in the Triad area who demonstrate stellar leadership and accomplishments.  Recognized nominees exemplify the following:

  • Must be a leader within his or her organization.
  • Must have had significant career achievements.
  • Must have substantial community involvement outside his or her day-to-day job.
  • Must be civically engaged in the Triad community of North Carolina.

Haynes is a litigation partner who focuses her practice on insurance defense, product liability and mass tort litigation, local government defense, and education and school law. She has an extensive history of community service and promoting diversity in the legal profession. Haynes was named one of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA)’s Rising Stars for 2020.  She has been a member of the City of Winston-Salem’s Human Relations Commission since 2013. She recently facilitated a dialogue between community leaders and law enforcement officials on racial inequalities in the criminal justice system. 

Her community service also includes serving on the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and chairing the Chamber’s Winston<40 Board for two years. She also has served in volunteer leadership positions with such organizations as the Hospice Foundation Leadership Council, HandsOn Northwest North Carolina and Wake Forest University’s Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Team.
