This event took place on October 29, 2021.

Womble Bond Dickinson Partner Karthika Perumal, Ph.D. presented a double session hosted by Innovation Partners at Texas A&M University.

The first session focused on "Authorship vs. Inventorship." The recognition of hard work for a lot of university researchers is authorship on a scientific publication. When research results in novel and useful discoveries, faculty and staff may also seek commercial recognition and disclose these inventions to their technology transfer offices to protect the intellectual property. The distinction between authorship and inventorship is subtle, but very important. This presentation helped participants understand the difference between the two, and why that difference is so important.

The second session concentrated on "Patenting in Life Sciences." Patenting and innovation trends in the life sciences is everchanging and it can sometimes be hard to keep up. This session provided attendees insight into what is currently trending in this sector.
