BEIJING—Like our clients in the sector, Womble Bond Dickinson’s Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sector Team has a global focus. So with that in mind, the team took an active role in the China Pharma IP Summit . The third annual event focused on intellectual property issues impacting pharmaceutical companies and took place Oct. 24-26 in Beijing.
The firm sponsored the opening reception at the China Pharma IP Summit. Attorneys Kevin Shao (US) and Patrick Cantrill (UK) gave a brief welcome to reception attendees.
Other firm attendees included US IP attorneys John Cao and Dominic Yee. With the assistance of Marketing & Client Resources Manager Angela Long, Atlanta Patent Attorney John Cox coordinated Womble’s presence and business development activities at the conference, though Cox was unable to attend.
Kevin Shao guides clients in the computer hardware and software, mechanical devices, networking devices, and electronics sectors. His areas of practice include patents, due diligence, patent validity and infringement analyses and opinions, and intellectual property counseling. Prior to becoming an attorney, Shao worked as an engineering professional for more than ten years for a variety of companies.
Patrick Cantrill has practiced both in the UK and overseas in contentious and non-contentious intellectual property law for 30 years and is recognized by the Legal 500 and Chambers as an expert and leading individual. Actively engaged in the sector, he sits as a Council Member for the UK for the Licensing Executives Society International, the global technology transfer forum and is also a past chairman of the Parallel Imports Committee of the International Trademarks Association.
John Cao provides a broad range of patent-related services including preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications, and patent litigation support. His areas of practice include integrated circuitry, semiconductors, machine learning (artificial intelligence), virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), medical devices, cloud computing, communication and networking systems, Internet technologies, computer architecture, data storage systems, and software systems.
Dominic Yee, Ph.D. , provides corporate clients with big-picture intellectual property guidance and oversight, helping them both protect and properly leverage their most important assets. He has a particular focus on global patent portfolio development for the pharmaceutical, biotech and life sciences industries.
