The U.S. plans to work with global allies on ways to incorporate nuclear fusion in efforts promote clean energy production. U.S. climate envoy John Kerry recently announced the nuclear fusion efforts at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai.
Womble Bond Dickinson Partner Belton Zeigler spoke about the prospects of nuclear fusion with Politico’s EnergyWire. Zeigler said there needs to be a “new set of regulatory constructs” and safety standards for the next generation of nuclear fusion reactors. Such regulations should be developed through an international process, he said.
Zeigler also told EnergyWire that policymakers should prepare for the reality that there will be community resistance to building nuclear fusion plants.
