Womble Bond Dickinson’s US IP Litigation team helps clients protect and defend their important business interests.
We represent companies in asserting claims against infringers and also in defending against claims of infringement. Our broad litigation experience includes assertions of patent infringement, copyright infringement, trademark infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, and related antitrust or unfair competition claims.
Our IP Litigation team is comprised of more than 30 full-time IP litigation attorneys. This litigation team is situated within WBD’s broad-based Intellectual Property practice, which includes more than 120 attorneys and approximately 20 patent agents and technical advisors. Our professionals have deep experience in the electrical, chemical, pharmaceutical, computer software, mechanical and electromechanical arts. More than 100 are USPTO registered practitioners (including attorneys and agents).
Our attorneys handle complex intellectual property cases in state and federal courts throughout the country, and before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). During the past ten years (2012-2021), WBD attorneys have handled over 650 intellectual property cases in 51 federal district courts. Our team is comprised of trial-tested litigators, including many with first chair experience in high profile cases. We have handled multiple appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, other federal and state appellate courts, and the Supreme Court of the United States. WBD attorneys also regularly litigate before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Our practice includes strong IP litigation teams in Delaware, California and Texas, three of the busiest patent litigation venues in the United States.
Intellectual property disputes can be disruptive and costly. To help our clients stay ahead, we stay informed.
Our team represents clients across industries and in all areas of IP litigation, handling cases nationwide, in state and federal courts, and before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). We offer sound, strategic advice and quality legal services to help you resolve disputes over IP infringement, from the more common to the highly complex.
Our IP Litigation Team is part of a broader Intellectual Property group that includes more than 250 attorneys and IP professionals with different concentrations, including technical advisors who frequently collaborate with defense counsel to prove IP infringement in court. Many of our IP lawyers also hold advanced degrees in scientific and technical fields. In particular, we're known for our experience in the electrical, chemical, pharmaceutical, computer software, mechanical, and electromechanical arts.
We represent companies in asserting claims against infringers and defending against claims of intellectual property infringement and are equally comfortable on the defendant and plaintiff sides of cases. Our broad litigation experience includes assertions of patent infringement, copyright infringement, trademark infringement, rights of publicity, misappropriation of trade secrets, false advertising and related antitrust or unfair competition claims.
Our PTAB lawyers have managed nearly 100 recent 7 Inter Partes Reviews, Post Grant Reviews, Covered Business Method Reviews, and Derivation proceedings before the PTAB, as well as numerous patent interference proceedings and ex parte reexaminations.
In addition to our litigation practice, we counsel on trade secret, unfair competition, and non-compete protections to prevent IP disputes and assist our corporate clients in directing internal corporate investigations into trade secret theft accusations.
We handle complex intellectual property cases in courts nationwide and in "IP hotbeds," such as the District of Delaware and the Northern District of California. Our team includes trial-tested litigators, many with first-chair experience in high-profile cases.
