Ripley Rand, a Womble Bond Dickinson Partner based in Raleigh, N.C., has been chosen as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. Rand is a partner within the firm's white collar criminal defense team and has previously held positions as a Presidentially appointed United States Attorney and a judge in North Carolina's trial courts. A 1990 alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Rand graduated with honors from the UNC School of Law in 1995. His legal career includes representing numerous clients in both federal and state courts, including appearances before the United States Supreme Court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and various North Carolina courts.
The Litigation Counsel of America is an esteemed society for trial lawyers, consisting of less than 0.5% of American legal professionals. Becoming a Fellow in the LCA is highly selective, requiring an invitation and is based on demonstrated excellence in litigation at both trial and appellate levels, as well as a commendable ethical reputation. The number of Fellowships is deliberately limited to maintain a high standard of qualifications, diversity, and inclusion, recognizing litigation excellence across all areas of the legal field. Fellows typically hold the position of partner or shareholder, or they are independent practitioners with recognized expertise and achievements. The LCA is committed to upholding superior advocacy, professionalism, and ethical standards among its Fellows.
Rand's induction into the LCA highlights his extensive experience and outstanding legal practice. His work has been acknowledged by Chambers USA for white-collar criminal defense and government investigations, as well as by Best Lawyers in America for white-collar criminal defense and commercial litigation. Additionally, Rand serves as the Chair of North Carolina's State Lottery Commission.
