The Georgia racketeering case against former President Donald Trump is picking up steam, with a fourth defendant, former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis, now striking a plea deal with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

Womble Bond Dickinson Joe Whitley recently joined Scripps News’ “The Debrief” to talk about the latest developments in the case.

“It’s hard not to feel sympathy for (Ellis),” Whitley said. “But it is a reminder that as a lawyer, you have to believe that what you are presenting in court is truthful.”

Earlier this week, Ellis pleaded guilty to one felony count of aiding and abetting false statements and writings. She received a sentence of a $5,000 fine, five years’ probation, and 100 hours of community service, plus she must write an apology letter to the people of Georgia. She also agreed to testify truthfully in any trials involving other co-defendants in this case.
