North Carolina-based Womble Bond Dickinson partner Chad Brown was among the featured speakers at the Fiftieth Annual Meeting of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys (ACMA) which was held in Chicago from September 19-21, 2024.

Chad participated in a panel discussion entitled “From Distress to Success: Coordinating Nonperforming Loan Workout Strategies with the Title Insurance Company to Maximize Coverage.” Other panelists included Joe Forte, a New York finance attorney and one of the original founders of CREFC, Jim Gosdin, Senior Vice President, Chief Underwriting Counsel, and the Associate General Counsel for Stewart Title, based in Houston, and moderator Marni Zarin, Senior Underwriting Counsel at First American Title, also based in Houston.

The program discussed distressed mortgage loan workout strategies and how involvement of the title company at each stage can maximize coverage for lenders. Topics included forbearances, waivers and loan modifications, protective advances, foreclosures and deeds in lieu of foreclosure, borrower bankruptcy, as well as available title insurance coverages, endorsements and requirements for each step of the workout and remedy process.

Chad also serves as Vice Chair of ACMA’s Title Insurance Committee.  Also in attendance at the conference were Charleston-based partner Dan Orvin and Washington-based partner Elizabeth Lee, who was elected to serve as ACMA Secretary at the meeting.
