People who know Womble Carlyle attorney Sonny Haynes realize that she is one of Winston-Salem’s young leaders, both in the courtroom and the community. Now, it’s official: The Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce has chosen Haynes to receive its 2014 Winston<40 Leadership Award.

The Winston<40 Leadership Award was given this year to 20 individuals 40 years of age or younger who are excelling in their respective fields. These individuals are actively influencing the growth, prosperity and quality of life in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.

Haynes regularly represents local governmental bodies and law enforcement agencies in litigation. Her experience includes state law tort claims, constitutional claims under Section 1983, employment issues, administrative hearings, wrongful death claims, and DSS cases. She has won three jury trials in the past year alone.

In the community, Haynes is a Commissioner of the Winston-Salem Human Relations Commission, Chair of the Winston<40 Advisory Board, a Chairman’s Appointee to the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Authoring Action. She also coaches the Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Team at Wake Forest University School of Law.

Haynes and the other Winston<40 honorees were recognized at an October 11th gala sponsored by Womble Carlyle and held at the Benton Convention Center.
