The South Carolina Department of Commerce recently opened its first U.K. and Republic of Ireland office, and Womble Bond Dickinson attorneys Whit McGreevy, Jonathan Blair, Nicola Giddens, Charlie Reid, James Love and Brendan O’Dea were on hand to host the opening event.

The office will promote new trade, cooperation and foreign direct investment opportunities for South Carolina throughout the U.K. and Irish markets. Staff will be based in both London and Dublin.

The U.K. was South Carolina’s 5th largest trading partner in 2023, accounting for $2.9 billion in combined import and export activity according to the S.C. Department of Commerce. Since 2017, the U.K. and Ireland have accounted for $362.1 million in investment and over 2,000 jobs in South Carolina.

Based in Womble’s Charleston, S.C. office, McGreevy regularly works with the S.C. Department of Commerce in his economic development and incentives practice. He advises clients on available federal, state, and local incentives and subsidies for domestic and international companies that are locating or expanding their operations throughout the U.S.
