TYSONS, VA.—Womble Bond Dickinson is committed to the communities served by the firm, and nowhere is that more evident than in Northern Virginia. There, Womble Bond Dickinson attorneys and staff members can be found collecting food for area food banks, donating shoes for needy children, running in races to raise money for charity, and participating in many other activities to help others.
The firm’s devotion to community service has been honored with the Northern Virginia Leadership Award, presented by Leadership Fairfax. Womble Bond Dickinson is the 2019 honoree in the Corporate Leadership: Organization category.
Some of the Northern Virginia Office’s recent volunteer activities include:
- Sponsoring the Tysons Tailgate: Building Brighter Futures event. This fun community gathering attracted more than 1,000 people for food, games and music. More importantly, money raised from the tailgate supported Second Story, a homeless shelter serving Northern Virginia youth. Womble Bond Dickinson Partner Dan Mackesey and Client Services Director Cameron Hunt also served as guest bartenders to raise additional funds for Second Story.
- Organizing a community food drive to benefit Food for Others, a local safety net providing food for Northern Virginia’s hungry. Womble Bond Dickinson volunteers helped staff the food drive, which collected more than 2,500 pounds of food.
- Fielding teams in the Food for Others Tysons 5K race as well as the Lawyers Have Heart 10k Run, the DC legal community’s annual philanthropic event supporting the American Heart Association.
- Collecting and donated shoes for the Fairfax County Public Schools. Tysons Partnership conducts the #Shoes4Kids drive, which collects hundreds of pairs of shoes for needy children. Womble Bond Dickinson attorneys and staff took part in this campaign.
“Womble Bond Dickinson has been in Northern Virginia for nearly 20 years. This community is our home, and the people who live here are our neighbors. We are honored to do what we can to help, and we are humbled to be recognized with the Northern Virginia Leadership Award by Leadership Fairfax,” said Dan Mackesey, a long-time partner in Womble Bond Dickinson’s Northern Virginia Office, who together with Director of Client Service Cameron Hunt has spearheaded the firm’s participation in many charitable events. “I also want to give credit to Megan Trossen of Tysons Partnership who has been the driving force behind the success of many of these events.”
Womble Bond Dickinson and other 2019 winners were honored at the 23rd Annual Northern Virginia Leadership Awards on Friday, December 6. The event took place at the Waterford Fair Oaks in Fairfax, Va.
