Womble Bond Dickinson’s Joe Whitley, Michael Clark, and Luke Cass are moderating panels at the 34th Annual ABA National Health Care Fraud Institute May 1-3 in Chicago, IL.

On Thursday, May 2, Luke Cass will moderate a panel on “Criminal and Civil Enforcement and COVID Fraud”. This workshop will discuss evolving criminal and civil enforcement proceedings for recovery of COVID funds.

On Friday, May 3, a Trial Practice panel will review one of the most famous trials of the century of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, from opening statements to her conviction and 11+ years’ sentencing. This session will be moderated by Joe Whitley, former Acting Associate Attorney General, and former U.S. Attorney in the Northern (Atlanta) and Middle (Macon) Districts of Georgia. Panelists include Holmes’s defense counsel Lance Wade of Williams & Connolly and former Department of Justice prosecutor, Jeff Schenk (now with Jones Day), who will discuss strategies and tactics they employed on behalf of Ms. Holmes and the United States.

Also on Friday, May 3, Michael Clark will moderate the “Criminal and Civil Enforcement and the Opioid Crisis” panel. This workshop will review the basis for liability in criminal and civil enforcement actions involving the dissemination of opioids.
