Womble Bond Dickinson attorney Chukwukpee Nzegwu was named the winner of the 2025 Rising Star award by his law school alma mater, the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. The Rising Star Award recognizes a recent graduate (having graduated between 2014-2023) whose exemplary contributions of service and leadership, either professionally or at Maryland Carey Law, brought credit to both the graduate and the institution.

The award is in recognition of leadership to his law school community and also within Womble. Based on his experience on Carey Law’s National Trial Team, Chukwukpee has gone on to coach future school teams. As a former leader of Carey Law’s Black Law Student Association, Chukwukpee continues to mentor other student members, and is a resource for career advice for those entering the legal profession. At Womble, Chukwukpee is a leader among the associates, serving on the firm’s associate committee and as an advisor to associates in other firm offices.

This year’s Alumni Award recipients were recognized and presented with their awards at the Alumni Honors Banquet during Alumni Weekend in April.

A number of Womble Bond Dickinson attorneys attended to support Chukwukpee, including Baltimore Office Managing Partner Newt Fowler, Luke Cass, Julie Giardina, Devin Harvin, Barry Herman, Greg Lawrence, and Alex Lowitt.

Chukwukpee is an associate in Womble Bond Dickinson’s Business Litigation group and focuses his practice on general commercial litigation, criminal investigations, and financial services litigation. He has helped numerous clients achieve successful outcomes in both white-collar litigation and business disputes. He graduated from Maryland Carey Law in 2020.
Each year, Alumni Award honorees (including the Rising Star winner) are selected by the Maryland Carey Law Alumni Board Awards Committee and confirmed by the Alumni Board.
