Who CAN enter the lottery?

Individuals from countries with historically low rates* of immigration to the United States who have either a high school education or its equivalent OR two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience to perform** are eligible to apply. Persons already lawfully in the United States, even those in the lawful permanent resident application process under a different category, may still apply if they meet all other conditions.

Who CANNOT enter the lottery?

Natives of the following countries are NOT eligible:

"Bangladesh; Brazil; Canada; China (mainland-born – individuals born in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Taiwan ARE eligible); Colombia; Dominican Republic; El Salvador; Haiti; India; Jamaica; Mexico; Nigeria; Pakistan; Peru; Philippines; South Korea; United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories; and Vietnam."
