Womble Bond Dickinson attorneys Karthika Perumal, Ph.D. and Nick Hawkins both participated in two programs at the Licensing Executives Society (LES) 2024 Annual Meeting.

Hawkins moderated a panel discussion on “Licensing in Sports: Navigating Student Athlete Name, Image & Likeness”. Student athletes are finally able to benefit financially from their name, image, and likeness through sponsorships and endorsements.  The panel reviewed the current NIL landscape for student athletes and the future of NIL for athletes as they move from their collegiate to professional careers. Panelists included Gabriel Feldman (Tulane University), Taylor R. Jacobs (Louisiana State University), Vicky Neumeyer (New Orleans Saints), and Bailey Ortega (Louisiana State University).

Perumal spoke on “Strengthening Your License – The Sequel to ‘Mechanics of a License’”. This educational course built on standard provisions discussed in the Mechanics of a License course, and examined the more challenging aspects of those provisions in license agreements. The insights provided in this class, including the nuances of when and how to use these provisions, were intended to help participants negotiate robust and enduring license agreements. She was joined in the presentation by Louise Levien of the Licensing Executives Society (U.S.A. and Canada), Inc.

Karthika is the immediate Past-President and immediate Past-Chair of Licensing Executives Society (LES) USA & Canada.

The LES 2024 Annual Meeting took place Oct. 20-23 in New Orleans.
