The 40 Under 40 list recognizes young leaders in the Charlotte region who demonstrate leadership within their organizations and the broader community, along with notable career achievements.

Sam Merritt is an experienced IP litigator with a proven record handling complex patent and trademark cases in federal courts, the USPTO, and the International Trade Commission. He advises clients across industries—including manufacturing, technology, finance, and sports—on all aspects of IP protection, dispute resolution, and strategy. His work includes advising a major golf tournament on global trademark matters and representing corporations in litigation involving product design, false advertising, and emerging technologies.

Outside his practice, Sam is active in Charlotte’s civic sector, providing pro bono legal support to small businesses through CLIMB and earning Volunteer of the Year honors. He also serves as a Board Member for The Boost Pad, Inc., helping foster local entrepreneurship and community programs.
