NEW YORK (May 23, 2024) – In further expansion of its financial services regulatory and technology capabilities, Womble Bond Dickinson today announced the addition of partner Louis Froelich to the Capital Markets group. Froelich joins in New York, where he has worked in legal and business roles for the better part of two decades.
Froelich advises hedge, private equity, venture, and other private fund managers on business-critical matters, helping them manage their regulatory and compliance obligations and launch new funds and other products. Drawing on his in-house experience leading a legal and compliance team for a B2B SaaS company, he also serves as outside general counsel to fintech and other technology companies.
“Louis represents an exciting milestone in the firm’s strategic commitment to grow our financial services platform, especially in New York City,” said Taber Cathcart, Capital Markets Practice Group Leader and Financial Services Sector Co-Leader. “His unique legal and business background working in financial services and technology will greatly enhance our ability to advise clients on sophisticated regulatory and compliance matters and product development.”

Froelich joins Womble from one of the world’s largest systematic hedge funds, where he first worked as an attorney for the fund business. He then served as head of legal and compliance for a B2B SaaS data analytics company incubated by the fund. In this role, Froelich led the creation and scaling of the company’s legal and compliance program, helping the company establish an enduring SaaS contractual structure and IP framework and managing the company’s SEC and CFTC legal and compliance programs. He later transitioned to a senior business role, leading the company’s strategic business development and data strategy, which Froelich says helped him better appreciate how businesses are built and operate.
Before going in-house, Froelich was an associate at Am Law 100 firms in New York. A native Ohioan, he graduated magna cum laude from the University of Cincinnati College of Law and received a bachelor’s degree in finance from Miami University (Ohio).
This addition reflects continued momentum for Womble’s New York office. Since 2023, it has welcomed a dozen attorneys, including high-profile corporate partner Tracy Bacigalupo, and bankruptcy partner trio Edward Schnitzer, David Banker, and Wojciech Jung.
