New York, New YorkThe International Trademark Association (INTA) is pleased to announce that Rudy Gaines, Client Services Director at Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP, a transatlantic law firm with offices in Raleigh, NC, is a recipient of the 2018 Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of the Association.

INTA presents the award annually to one or more individuals whose participation, efforts, and progressive thinking during the year have advanced the strategic objectives of INTA.

Mr. Gaines is a long-term INTA member who currently serves on the Unreal Campaign Committee, charged with educating teens about the dangers of counterfeit goods and the importance of trademarks. Previously, he was a member of the Leadership Development Committee, the Public and Media Relations Committee, and the project team for INTA’s Trademark Administrators and Practitioners Meeting.

“Mr. Gaines is a trailblazer and is being recognized not only for his contributions during the past year, but for his many years of exemplary service as a volunteer,” said INTA President Tish Berard. “His participation in committee work has been engaging and enriching for both members and staff, and his insights and influence have left a mark on the Association and on the field of intellectual property.”

In particular, he conceived of Leadership Labs, which has become a standing practice at INTA to train committee heads on committee management and effective thought leadership.

In receiving the award, Mr. Gaines noted, “What I like about INTA is that it’s one of those rare organizations—indeed one of those rare things in life—where whatever you put into it, it gives back. You work for it, and it works for you.”

INTA presented the award to Mr. Gaines during the Association’s 2018 Leadership Meeting in New Orleans, LA in November. At the meeting, he was a presenter at a new session entitled INTA Influencers, at which he spoke about emotional quotient and emotional intelligence.

INTA also presented the 2018 Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of the Association to Bienvenido Marquez, a partner at Quisumbing Torres, based in Taguig City, the Philippines.
