On October 11, 2017, cybersecurity professionals gathered on the campus of U.N.C. Charlotte for the 18th Annual Cybersecurity Symposium. Womble Carlyle lawyer Allen O’Rourke was among those who spoke at the conference.
O’Rourke took part in a panel discussion entitled “Before, During and After the Breach.” He and the other panelists explored best practices and potential legal pitfalls in how companies prepare for and respond to cybersecurity incidents. They also discussed emerging issues in legal liability for data breaches.
O’Rourke was joined on the panel by Leonard Bailey, Special Counsel for National Security at the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section of the US Department of Justice, and by Megan Stifel, founder and CEO of Silicon Harbor Consultants, LLC, and former Director for International Cyber Policy in the National Security Council at the White House. The panel was moderated by Roger Callahan, Managing Director of Information Assurance Advisory, LLC.
Allen O’Rourke represents clients in cyber investigations, government enforcement, and civil litigation related to data breaches and cyberattacks. He also counsels clients on data privacy and cybersecurity issues. Before joining Womble Carlyle, he served as an Assistant US Attorney at the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, where he focused on cybercrime.
