The North Carolina Bar Association and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel recently co-hosted a panel discussion, organized by the NCBA Estate Planning & Fiduciary Law Section's Inclusion Diversity, Equity, & Access (IDEA) Committee. Held on November 12 at North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham, N.C. and entitled “A Helping Hand: Accessibility in the Legal Field – For Lawyers and Clients Alike”, the event aimed to provide law students and attorneys with insights into the challenges faced by clients and lawyers with disabilities. Further, the panel discussed entry pathways and ways to promote accessibility in the field.
Panelists included Manuel Colón, Erin Edgar, and Paula Kohut. From Womble, Carl King—the son of a veteran (and proud “Navy brat”) and father of a disabled child—moderated the discussion, with Caroline Denning serving as one of the event planners.
